Pre-Season
All adults (18 years and older) who have contact with BASC players during practice, games or other team activities must register with BASC each season and pass a background check annually. This includes parents helping out at practice and/or games. A parent who is helping the team can register as a team manager.
Make sure that your time zone is set to Central Time (US and Canada), so your games show up with the correct time. Instructions on how to do so can be found here.
Before you can be placed as a Coach or Manager on your team, you must complete SafeSport and Concussion training and pass a background check.
You can find the links to complete these three Risk Management tasks on the Dashboard of your account.

Before each season, BASC hosts a Coaches Meeting that is Mandatory for all coaches to attend.

It is the policy of the Broken Arrow Soccer Club that each player on a recreational team has the right to play at least one half of every game in which the team participates. It is the responsibility of each coach to strictly enforce this policy. However, it is recognized that there may be rare instances in which it may be necessary to deviate from this policy.

Practice
As you begin your practices, please remember the following items. It is always a good idea to have a 15 minute meeting with your parents to review the below practice guidelines:
1. Every player should always come prepared. This is the most difficult guideline.
a. Ball (Correct size with air)
b. Water
c. Proper clothes for warm/cold days
d. Soccer shoes
2. Entry/Exit at practice locations should be done at the right speed
a. Many practice locations have a goal that backs up to entry driveway, so kids will be running across the road to chase their soccer ball
b. Make sure you also instruct your players about chasing their soccer balls across the driveways
c. Do NOT penalize any player for being late to practice. Many parents have multiple kids at multiple locations, and as such they will be late from time-to-time. You will learn the players that will be late, and as coaches we must always be ready for these situations and adjust.
3. Remember the WITNESS rule for practice.
a. Do NOT be caught alone with any player, regardless of age.
b. You, +1 additional parent, should remain with the last child.
c. This is for your protection, as well as the player.
4. NO HANGING ON GOALS.
a. All goals should be anchored with stakes.
b. Please do NOT move the goals!
c. Kids have been injured and killed in the Tulsa area because of this. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE to cover with the younger players.
d. Every goal should have 2 stakes, if you are missing any, please let the 3rd VP know.
5. Parking areas have been provided at all locations.
a. NO ONE is to park within 15 feet of any sideline of any practice field. Move your parents back!
b. If you have any questions about where your practice field parking is, please contact the 3rd VP.
6. Do NOT drive across any field! It might look like a shortcut….but it is NOT. We don’t need tire ruts, or players at risk, just because someone wants to take the shortcut.
7. ALL CHURCH PRACTICE FIELDS ARE CLOSED ON SUNDAY AND WEDNESDAY. DO NOT PRACTICE AT ANY CHURCH LOCATION ON THESE DAYS!!!
Special Rules for certain practice fields:
Health Department:
1. Do NOT park on Grass anywhere at this complex. If any team is found to park on the grass, your team will be removed from these fields as your practice location.
a. This is NOT a BASC policy; it is a Tulsa Health Department policy, as we receive these fields with a very, very minimal usage fee.
b. Tulsa Health Department has threatened to terminate the agreement, and if they do, we will be without your practice field, and teams assigned will need to find their own location.
c. Tattle-tales welcome! Please send a note via email about the coach who is not obeying, and the 3rd VP will handle.
2. DO NOT move the goals. They are to remain where they are staked down.
a. If a goal is moved, please notify me immediately.
b. If a goal becomes unsecured, and you can locate the stake and stake it down, please do so immediately for player safety.
i. If a goal is unsecured, you are not allowed to practice at the goal.
c. For all unsecured goals, please notify the 3rd VP.

US Soccer Cold Weather Guidelines
Training in extreme heat can be dangerous. Please make sure you have read and understand the guidelines that help us all make good decisions about when and how to train. You’ll find some resources below. The phrase “Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT)” can be confusing, but if you simply accept it for what it is – a number which is derived from several measurements – and know what a bad number is for our geographic location you’ll have enough info to make good decisions. Below is a snippet from the recognizetorecover.org guidelines. We are in location Category 3. So, a WBGT of greater than 92F means no training. 90.1 to 91.9 means limited training as described, etc. Remember, these are WBGT numbers, not the heat index and not the current temperature. No match or training session is worth impacting the health of a player.
Q: When should I decide whether or not to cancel training?
A: That depends on the expectation that you may have set with your parents regarding cancellation of training. Manage it just like you would a decision based up on cold, rain, or field closures. A WBGT of 92 at 2:00 does not mean that the WBGT at 6:00 will also be 92 just like rain at 2:00 doesn’t guarantee rain at 6:00.
Q: Does the Club have it’s own set of rules regarding training/match conditions?
A: No. We rely upon this guidance provided by USYS
